This week features the two cops that stopped Smokescreen and Stonewall two weeks ago. I wanted to do a tribute to the short cop bits from the Kids In The Hall sketch show from Canada, of which I’m a big fan. This whole week is devoted to them.

And here is the fiftieth strip, with a reference to an obscure comedy troupe called Duck’s Breath Mystery Theater. They had a character called “Dr. Science” in a bit called “Ask Dr. Science!”. The announcer would say “He’s not a real doctor…” whereupon Dr. Science would cheerfully gloat, “I have a Master’s Degree…in SCIENCE!”

Back in the late ’80s, I saw DBMT perform in my hometown and during intermission, they took a bunch of questions for Dr. Science to answer in a later sketch. During this time, there was a flap where UPS discovered someone had shipped a bunch of cadaver heads to the CU Medical School in plain packages that had started, um, leaking. One of the questions Dr. Science read (and obviously he wasn’t aware of the current news) was “Dear Dr. Science; what is the proper method for transporting human body parts?”

I still don’t think he knows why everyone thought that was so funny.

Every supervillain has a secret hideout where he develops his nefarious devices. Except Dr. Mat, apparently, who hadn’t gotten around to building his yet.

I was still experimenting with different post-production techniques and wasn’t getting things to look the way I wanted them to. You can see the color variations and the graininess that I was having difficulty eliminating.

The wordplay between Dr. Mat and his two Henchmen (named Henchman 1 and Henchman 2 in my scripts) is a lot of fun to write. Like many supervillains, the guys who carry the spears and throw the switches know a lot more about what’s going on than the “mastermind.”

There is internet access at my job, but not where I can use it.
