Making animals is something I’ve never really explored in my 30+ years of creating things with LEGO elements. The one in this strip actually looks pretty cool, but for some reason the black bricks, normally shiny and defined, wouldn’t show up clearly in this strip. You’ll see it more during this week.

This also marks the first really new set I created in several weeks – Dr. Mat’s lab. I’m quite pleased with how it differs from Science Guy’s lab; SG’s is cluttered – the kind of place stuff actually gets done, where Dr. Mat’s is one of those spotless labs where one suspects no actual work takes place.

I really enjoy the strips with the Henchmen (as yet unnamed beyond Henchman #1 and Henchman #2). I think they’re the funniest of all the characters, except maybe for Slick.

I picture Silverstein as sounding exactly like Peter Graves from the first Airplane movie. You know, reassuring and professional. “Johnny, you like movies about gladiators?”

I was concerned with the first panel that it might come across as sounding like it belonged to a hentai strip. This concern was compounded by the fact that if Sandstorm is visible in the strip, and Silence is, well, silent, that the “sexy sounds” coming from behind the closed door meant some hot man-on-man action. Now, I have nothing against gay men – heck, I’d hang around with Morgen or Vinnie any day of the week – but none of the S-Team fellows are. My solution to this quandary was adding the “Wowzers!”, which I’m sure was spoken by Slick.

This is a classic-style joke where one character plainly describes what the other characters are doing, which they then categorically deny doing. I think it’s a funny bit.

Puns have always been a part of my life, with thanks (or no thanks!) to my father. He is famous for real stinkers that send people running from the room. Things get thrown at him. This strip isn’t a tribute to him, but you can see what the effect was on me, being brought up in such an environment.

Boob. Say it with me. “Booooooooooob!”

As a point of fact, I’ve never actually been in a Hooters restaurant. My tastes run toward different cuisine. I imagine the scenery is pretty nice, though. And you can’t really make a series of boob jokes without a single reference to Hooters.
